The Egyptian government announced that there were over 40,000 refugees living in Egypt, from 38 countries, with Iraq, Sudan, and Somalia being in the majority
This is according to Faiza Abul Naga, the Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation in a statment to told reporters in Cairo on Wednesday after meeting with Saad al-Attar, the regional representative of the office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
Abul-Naga stressed the cooperation of the Egyptian government and UNHCR to provide the basic needs of refugees, health, education and others.
Egypt signed the treaty on the rights of refugees in 1951.
