Egypt's Brotherhood names new leader

Egypt's main opposition movement, the Muslim Brotherhood, appointed Mohamed Badie, a conservative figure, as its new leader, his predecessor told a news conference on Saturday.

Badie, a veterinary professor at a university in southern Egypt, was "chosen by consensus by members of the consultative council," Mohamed Akef said.

He added the Brotherhood would work for a "renaissance" across the Muslim world.
