Fahmy said the Egyptian request to extradite Maged was based on a consensual Arab League agreement to fight terrorism, adding that Qatar should provide an explanation if it denies the extradition request.

Maged is accused of inciting violence after June 30 and of being involved in clashes which took place at the vicinity of the Republican Guard House, Al-Istikama mosque at Giza Square, and the vicinity of Rabaa al-Adaweya. He is also accused of being involved in the storming of the Kerdasa Police Station as well as other violent incidents in Qalyubia and Alexandria.

On a similar note, a judicial source said the Attorney General’s International Cooperation Office has taken necessary legal action against fleeing suspects accused of insulting the Egyptian judiciary, and has notified Interpol of the need to put their names on its wanted list.

The source added that Assem Abdel Maged, former Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mohamed Mahsoub, Islamic preacher Wagdy Ghoneim, Bar Association Human Rights Committee Rapporteur Mamdouh Ismail, journalist at Asharq Al-Awsat News Agency Ahmed Hassan, and Abdel Rahman Yusuf al-Qaradawi were among those wanted.
