El-Sisi to appear in first ever TV interview Monday

Presidential candidate Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is scheduled to appear Monday in his first ever TV interview co-hosted by Egyptian media figures Ibrahim Eissa and Lamees Al-Hadidi.

The interview will be broadcast on Egyptian satellite channels ONTV and CBC. It was initially set to air Sunday, but it was moved back to Monday without explanation from the host channels.

Although the former army chief El-Sisi and former head of military intelligence has given a number of newspaper interviews and televised speeches, he has never been interviewed on television.

The interview has been prerecorded and will air at 9 pm CLT (7 pm GMT).

El-Sisi resigned from his post as head of the military and defence minister to compete with only one rival, leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi, for the presidency. Sabahi finished third in Egypt's 2012 presidential race.

Despite riding on a wave of popularity among Egyptians, El-Sisi's opponents, mostly in the Islamist camp, view him as the mastermind of what they describe as a coup that toppled Egypt's first democratically elected president, Mohamed Morsi.

Egypt's presidential election is scheduled to take place on 26-27 May.
