Egypt's prime minister to donate half his salary and part of his wealth to El-Sisi initiative

Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab will donate half his monthly salary and a part of his wealth to a new initiative launched by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to assist Egypt through its economic crisis, cabinet spokesperson Hossam Kaweesh announced late Wednesday.

President El-Sisi said Tuesday in a speech delivered during the commencement ceremony at the Military Academy that he would donate half of his monthly salary and half of his wealth in support of the Egyptian economy.

The announcement was tied to an initiative titled "Tahya Masr," which translates "Long live Egypt," aiming to address Egypt's deteriorated economy.

El-Sisi said he will give up half of his monthly LE42,000 salary to assist Egypt through its economic challenges.

Kaweesh added that the Cabinet's meeting late Wednesday was the first since the appointment of the new government.

He said ministers discussed a number of issues related to the security campaign waged by the interior ministry, lowering expenditures in various ministries, and other internal issues.
