Military spokesperson Mohamed Samir said in a statement on Tuesday that army troops killed 17 extremists in North Sinai in an exchange of fire, including three while trying to escape from a checkpoint and 14 during raids on their hideouts.
He also said that 11 others who had carried out terrorist operations against the armed forces and the police were arrested and their unlicensed cars and motorcycles were seized.
He added that the army also destroyed 86 hideouts of terrorist elements.
