Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry, who is on his way to New York to participate in a high-level meeting on terrorism in Washington, will explain the dimension of the “terror” Egypt is facing, according to Abdel Atty.
Meanwhile, the United Nations and the Security Council condemned the mass beheading of 12 Egyptians in Libya by the Islamic State group in a press statement Sunday.
The Security Council emphasized that IS’s actions do not intimidate the international community, but rather increase concerted efforts by governments to fight them.
Egypt led an air strike on IS’s strongholds in the port city of Derna early Monday, with sources saying that the strikes would continue.
