Assiut Security Directorate is investigating Ashraf Halaka, gang leader that kept terrorizing the Copts and imposing royalties on them.
He was arrested after exchanging fire with the police.
Halaka faces more than 20 cases including murder, kidnapping and robbery. He was sentenced to life imprisonment five times.
He has also killed two Copts in their houses after they refused to pay the imposed royalties.
Police had tried to arrest him and his gang, but could only kill his assistant Salem Halaka. In a security crackdown, Halaka was arrested after he tried to escape, but was severely injured after falling of a building.
On the other hand, people of the village were so happy to receive the information of arresting Halaka. It’s worth mentioning that one kidnapped Coptic man called Wsfi Heshmat was released after Halaka had been arrested.
