Pope Tawadros participates in Armenian genocide centenary conference

Pope Tawadros II and a number of church leaders have participated in an Armenian genocide centenary conference held in the capital Yerevan entitled “Remember and Demand”.Pope Tawadros II and a number of church leaders have participated in an Armenian genocide centenary conference held in the capital Yerevan entitled “Remember and Demand”.

The conference was held on Thursday to commemorate nearly a million and a half Christian Armenians who were victims of Ottoman Empire massacres.

Attending the conference were the Armenian President, the Prime Minister, state officials, patriarchs of the Syriac, Maronite, Serbian, Czech and Armenian Catholic churches and the patriarch of the Indian Orthodox Church.

In his speech, Pope Tawadros said the enormous number of martyrs is but a sign of the power of the church that reminds us of eternity and immortality, and that makes us complete the days of our lives asking for God’s blessings.

Despite what most historians say was the 20st century's first genocide, Turkey still denies the mass killings of Armenians was a genocide, arguing it was neither systematic or premeditated, but rather the by-product of ethnic fighting.
