Father Theodore Al Antoui from Anba Antonius Monastery in Egypt’s Eastern Desert was consecrated the new Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Jerusalem Sunday following the death of Anba Abraham, Youm7 reported.
The consecration ceremony took place at the Saint Mark Church in Cairo’s district of Azbakeya in presence of Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark See.
Fr. Theodore was born in 1969 in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Asyut. In 2014, he was chosen by Pope Tawadros II for a four-year scholarship in Greece where he spent two years there but returned back to Egypt to hold his new post.
Anba Abraham, who passed away in Nov. 2015, was born in 1943 in Upper Egypt’s governorate of Sohag before he was consecrated Metropolitan of Jerusalem and the Near East by late Pope Shenouda III.
