EgyptAir domestic tickets increase by 15-30%

An EgyptAir source said the prices of tickets for domestic flights increased between 15 to 30 percent after the flotation of the Egyptian pound in November, Al-Borsa News reported.

The increase ratio depends on the timing of the flight and the timing of booking tickets and varies from one destination to another, the source added.

Fuel, maintenance costs and fees of landing and taking off are all paid in US dollars, the source pointed out.

Chairman of EgyptAir, Safwat Mesallam, had hinted earlier, to the possibility of increasing domestic airline tickets.

EgyptAir controls 24.8 percent of the total air traffic in Egyptian airports. The company liberated the prices of its international flights tickets, after the flotation of the pound, to be subject to supply and demand and to be subject to the price of the Egyptian pound exchange rate in banks, Borsa News reported.

EgyptAir and its subsidiary companies achieved a profit of LE500 million in the first quarter of the current fiscal year.

The company launched a new service to its customers in cooperation with the National Bank of Egypt, allowing customers to pay in installments with low interest rates, over a period between 6 to 12 months, for tickets to 60 countries.

EgyptAir contracted on the purchase of nine new Boeing aircrafts worth US$ 864 million. They will be allocated to flights for 6 hours to European and the Middle Eastern countries.
