Egypts FM Shoukry calls for boosting international cooperation on human rights
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed on Tuesday Egypt s keenness on boosting international cooperation in the field of human rights and the resolution of conflicts.
Addressing the high-level segment of the 40th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Shoukry said that President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi launched an initiative last year to achieve development in transparency.

Shoukry also highlighted the inauguration of the country s largest mosque and cathedral in the New Administrative Capital last month to prove that there is no religious discrimination in Egypt.

He added that some countries suffer from the presence of terrorist groups, pointing out that these countries are in dire need of humanitarian assistance to help them restore stability.

Shoukry said that some countries exploit the UN Human Rights Council to make political gains and impose their views by force.

Egypt believes that human rights are an interdependent set of indivisible rights, primarily the right to life, the Egyptian foreign minister said.

Shoukry added that Egypt pays great attention to initiatives presented by the UN Human Rights Council in this regard.

The minister further stressed that Egypt s keenness to actively participate in the promotion of human rights on the African level is a priority during its current presidency of the African Union.

The Egyptian government took several steps last year in the field of human rights out of its belief that the Egyptian people should enjoy all rights and freedoms to have a better future, Shoukry said.

He added that the Egyptian state has adopted a comprehensive programme to develop pre-university education and empower women at the political, social and economic levels.
