Liverpool s Egyptian winger is confirmed to miss Tuesday s anticipated Champions league match against Barcelona due to injury according to coach Jurgen Klopp.
“It s a concussion so it s a case of him not even being allowed to play,” Klopp said in the pre-match press conference on Monday.
“He feels OK but it s not good enough from a medical point view, that s all,” he added.
Liverpool will be hosting the Spanish giants in the return match of the EUFA Champions League semis and Salah s absence will add more woes for the Reds who need a miracle to overturn the 3-0 away loss in the first leg.
Salah was stretchered off in the 73rd minute of Saturday s 3-2 league victory over Newcastle after his head clashed with the legs of Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka.
Klopp said after the match that the 26-year-old remained in the dressing room with Liverpool s medics, hinting that the injury was not serious.
Before picking the injury, Salah put Liverpool 2-1 up on 28 minutes to take his tally to 22 goals on top of the Premier League scoring chart, two ahead of teammate Sadio Mane and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.
Liverpool s mission against Barca will be more difficult as key Brazilian striker Roberto Firmino is also out due to a groin injury.
“There s hope and that s football,” the coach said.
“We are far away from giving up. “Two of the world s best strikers are not available tomorrow – it doesn t make life any easier but while we have 11 players on the pitch we will try,” he concluded.
