Zamalek held By Harras El-Hodoud to drop more points in title race

Zamalek held to a 1-1 draw by Harras El-Hodoud in a delayed league game at Mexx stadium in Alexandria on Monday to drop another two points in their race for the Egyptian league title.

The White Knights are now third in the league table with 68 points, six behind leaders Ahly who played one match more.

Zamalek have no option but to win in their remaining three games, set to be played after the Nations Cup to secure the title.

They are set to face Gouna, Ismaily and archrivals Ahly respectively but the schedule is not revealed yet.

Zamalek defender Bahaa Magdi scored in his own net in the 34 th minutes while Moroccan striker leveled the score five minutes after the hour-mark.

New coach Khaled Galal who started his mission with Zamalek after the departure of Swiss coach Christian Gross made many modifications in his starting line-up.

He started with left-back Bahaa Magdi at the expense of Abdallah Gomaa and he gave the chance to out of favour midfielder Mohamed Hassan who made his first start this season.

Galal introduced two strikers in his frontline to pose more pressure on Harras El-Hodoud s defense.

Chances were few in the first half as Harras El-Hodoud opted for defense while Zamalek players appeared incapable to threaten El-Hodoud s keeper Ahmed El-Saadani.

In the 34 th minute Zamalek defender Bahaa Magdi diverted a low cross from Harras El-Hosoud striker Edu Moses in his own net to open the scoring for the hosts.

Zamalek tried to level the score with morocan striker Khaled Boutaib header went wide just before the break.

The international striker squandered another chance when he met a nice cross from Kahraba with a nice header but his effort was denied by the bar.

Moses had the chance to double the score in two occasions but Zamalek keeper Mahmoud Abdel-Rehim rescued his side in both occasions.

Five minutes after the hour-mark Boutaib scored the equalizer with a nice header from a corner.

Zamalek coach introduced Abdallah Gomaa and Ayman Hefni in order to claim the win but they failed to make the anticipated impact as both sides shared a point from this nervy clash.
