Egypts Olympic Committee suspends Zamalek president Mansour for 4 years

Egypt s Olympic Committee on Sunday suspended Zamalek president Mortada Mansour for four years and handed him an EGP 100,000 fine for repeatedly using an abusive language against many sports officials.

The Olympic Committee said it acted upon complaints from a number of sports officials and organizations, including the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), the Handball Federation, the chairman of Cairo club Ahly and others.

"The president of Zamalek is hereby banned from performing any kind of sports-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four years and is further fined a sum of EGP100,000," the Olympic Committee said in a statement.

It also said Zamalek board must call for an early election for the post of the club s president.

However, it s not yet clear if the Olympic Committee s decision is binding. It had previously banned Mansour, who is known for his fiery temper and acid-tongued outbursts, for two years in October 2018, but the ruling was never implemented.

"I will not even be suspended for four days … I will throw this decision into the nearest trash bin," Mansour said.

The outspoken lawyer, a highly controversial figure who is known for his fiery remarks and constant squabbles with opponents, was elected chairman of Zamalek in March 2014 before being reelected for a second term in 2017.
