Confusion surrounds rumors of govt resignations
Unconfirmed reports have circulated about the resignation of interim Prime Minister Essam Sharaf's senior adviser, Ali al-Ghateet, amid news about the resignation of other senior officials.
On Wednesday, Sharaf accepted the resignation of his deputy, Yehia al-Gamal. But the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) turned down the resignation, prompting Gamal to reverse his decision.

Sharaf had appointed Ghateet as chairman of his advisory council, mandating him with announcing the council's formation, which has not yet happened. Ghateet is also chairman of the national justice commission that oversees discussions on religions discrimination and the unified law for places of worship.

An official cabinet source said Sharaf had clashed with the military rulers over several issues, including his recent satement supporting the creation of a new constitution before parliamentary elections.

The same source added that Sharaf's intention to remove some ministers had been rejected by the SCAF.

A state of disorder may have been reflected in Sharaf's Thursday program; he cancelled a visit to Qalyubiya Governorate without providing a reason. He also moved up the inauguration of the 18th International Exhibition and Conference for Building and Construction (Inter Build) from 11 am to 9:30 am.

After changing the time of his appearance, the prime minister gave a brief statement instead of using the pre-written speech that had been distributed to reporters. He then took a quick tour of some pavilions before leaving.
