Brotherhood names three possible presidential candidates

MP Mohamed Emadeddin, a member of Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee and a leader in the Muslim Brotherhood, stated Monday evening that the Islamist group will consider three names in their bid to select a candidate for Egypt's upcoming presidential polls, according to Ahram's Arabic-language portal.

The short-list includes Mohamed Mursi, chairman of the Brotherhood's political arm, the Freedom and Justice Party; Saad El-Katatni, the parliamentary speaker, and the group's deputy guide, Khairat El-Shater.

He added that the Brotherhood's decision would be announced on Thursday if the group decides to nominate a non-FJP member.

Furthermore, Emadeddin denounced earlier statements by Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri, in which he stated that the Parliament "does not have the authority to withdraw confidence from the government."

"We will not retreat from our decision to withdraw confidence from the government," the Brotherhood leader insisted.

Emadeddin added that the FJP, the Wafd Party and the Salafist Nour Party are on board with plans to withdraw confidence from the current Cabinet, as the latter and Parliament are on two separate pages.
