Brotherhood never announced temporary supreme guide: FJP

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) on Tuesday denied that an acting Supreme Guide was chosen following Mohamed Badie’s arrest on Monday.

The Freedom and Justice Party said via Twitter that the Brotherhood has not released any statements after the arrest of the Supreme Guide Badie until now.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Freedom and Justice Party had published on its website that Mahmoud Ezzat would temporarily take on the role of spiritual leader.

However, it said via Twitter that the FJP website serves as a media outlet and does not reflect the party’s views.

Badie was arrested shortly after midnight in Cairo's Nasr City amid a broad crackdown by Egypt’s army-backed government on the Islamist group and its followers, from which ousted president Mohamed Morsi hails.
