Moscow ready to present nuclear energy projects to Egypt: Russian FM

CAIRO: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday that Russia is ready to present a range of different projects to Egypt, including some in the field of nuclear energy.

Lavrov added in the interview with the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta (Russian Gazette), “We are friends of the Egyptian people and these people treat us well. We are preparing to present a number of different projects specifically in the development of nuclear energy. We have a lot of experience in this field and in other fields.”

According to the Russian minister, Egypt and Russia were entertaining “business and strategic relations” during the era of the former president Mubarak.

The Russian minister clarified, “there are many plans. We were and still are among the biggest suppliers of tourists to Egypt. Russia is also the greatest source of grain to Cairo.”

The minister said that both Russia and Egypt “are interested in the cooperation in the field of energy and collaboration between universities.” He added, “We had plans to establish joint industrial areas with the goal to launch technical-military cooperation, as it is the big focus of Egyptians’ interest.”
