Regarding Monday s derby, Ahly confirmed their attendance at Cairo s international stadium on time for the Zamalek match despite their decision to escalate the EFA sanctions to FIFA.

Maqassa s new Nigerian coach Emmanuel Amunike says he has big ambitions to achieve with the Egyptian Premier League club, insisting that his players only need some confidence to return back to winning ways. "I agreed a one-and-a-half-year contract with Maqassa to build a strong team with young players in the coming period," Amunike said in an interview with Al-Ahram Al-Riyadi magazine published on Wednesday. The possession-based football orchestrated by Degla s Greek coach Takis Gonias looks to be finally working after a poor start to the season. Zamalek s mini-revival came to an end as they lie third in the table with 25 points, a massive 11 behind leaders and arch rivals Ahly, who still have a game in hand. Given the big gap, Zamalek s realistic hope lies in finishing second and earning an African Champions League spot. Ahly looked disjointed in the opening half-hour, with a physical Etoile side giving them little space to operate and trying to hit them on the counter. Striker Karim Aribi wasted two chances to give Etoile a surprise lead early one, forcing a fine one-handed save from Mohamed El-Shennawi with a shot from the edge of the area before having another effort thwarted by the keeper after racing past his challenger in the area.
