The Court of Giza issued its ruling today concerning the attack on a church in Atfih and declared all 20 defendants innocent. The defendants included 1 Coptic man who was accused of building unlicensed church and 19 Muslims who were accused of attaching and demolishing the house. Previously, the Coptic Christian man had been fined 360 thousands EGP while the Muslim defendants had been fined only 500 EGP though they gathered and assault on the house and destroyed it provoking sectarian strife.

Houses of the victims were attacked and looted and their children were terrified by the attackers. The bishop talked with the victims about forgiveness for the attackers as well as their rights and state duty to punish the attackers by law enforcement and refusing to hold the customary reconciliation sessions that help the attackers escape their due punishment.

Free Egyptians Party issued a statement to condemn the savage attack on Copts of Damshaw Hashim village by fanatics who aim to incite sectarian strife. Statement said that the criminals and terrorists who attacked innocent and peaceful people should be punished according to the law.

Minya prosecution extended the imprisonment of 19 defendants pending investigations of the attack on Copts of Demshaw Hashim village in Minya. The defendants are charged with inciting violence and attacking people refusing to allow them to hold prayers.

Wael Saad, the disgraced monk of St. Makar monastery assured to his brother and his lawyer that he did not kill the bishop and his confessions to police came under pressures during the investigation. He added that he was outside the monastery at the time of the murder of the bishop. He added that he tried to commit suicide due to the pressures that were put on him during the investigation.

The Committee of the affairs of monasteries and monasticism in the Holy Synod under the supervision of His Holiness Pope Twadros II decided today to transfer 6 monks of the Monastery of Abu Makar in Wadil Natroun to other Coptic monasteries. The new monks declared their obedience to the decision.

Police in Minya arrested 3 defendants in Ezbet Sultan Pasha village on charges of inciting violence. Police promised to take all measures to prevent any sectarian attacks. Extremists have demonstrated to show their rejection to a church building in their village.

Esna prosecution in Luxor province ordered the detention of 20 defendants, including 5 Copts, for 15 days pending the investigation of Zenika village sectarian attacks. The Copts were accused of praying in unlicensed building, gathering, disturbing the public peace and provoking sedition.

Attorney general of the appeals of Alexandria referred Wael Saad Tawadros, and monk Faltawes to Criminal Court on charges of the murder of Bishop Epiphanius, head of St. Makar monastery. The defrocked monk Isaiah confessed to the murder of the bishop with the help of monk Faltaws who encouraged him and secured the way to commit his crime. Wael Saad also confessed he used a metal piece to hit the bishop thrice on his head causing his death.

Egypt s Public Prosecution decided on Thursday to renew the detention of monk Feltous of St. Makar monastery for 15 days The monk is accused of taking part in the murder of Abba Epiphanius, Bishop of the monastery of St. Makar in Wadil Natroun. Disgraced monk Isaiah had confessed to the murder of the bishop before monk Feltous attempt to commit suicide fearing that the crime will be discovered according to police investigations.

Defrocked monk Isaiah of St. Makar monastery, whose name is Wael Saad, was officially accused of murdering head of his monastery Bishop Epiphanius. Wael has explained in detail how did he commit his crime using a metal stick and showed police where did he hide the murder weapon.

Abba Antonius, Archibishop of Jerusalem, attends the funeral of his father Hegumin Timusaus Sharmoukh, deputy of Abu Tig diocese. The late priest served as minister and priest for years and was ordained a priest in 1968 and was promoted to the rank of Hegumin on March 13, 1983.
