Bishop Abakir of the Orthodox Church in Scandinavia participated in the Diaries of Joy campaign organized by the media center of the Coptic Orthodox Church. This campaign comes to celebrate the joy of the Resurrection feast celebrated for 50 days in the Church and is considered the most joyous period for the Copts when they refrain from fasting.

Bishop Isaac of Tima sent an official apology to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, and to the members of the Holy Synod, for allowing the consecrated nuns participate in the glorious Mass of the Resurrection feast, which violates the decision of the Holy Synod. Bishop Isaac added that he didn t mean to violate the decision, but to bring joy to the hearts of the nuns on the glorious feast, and that he will never do that again

Dr. Hussam Hosni, Chairman of the Higher Scientific Committee to Combat Corona virus at the Ministry of Health, appealed to citizens to follow the procedures of social distancing during the Holy Month of Ramadan to prevent the spread of Corona virus. He added in a television interview that most of the deaths of the virus were in the elderly who suffer from chronic diseases, especially kidney diseases, tumors and high blood pressure.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation in coordination with the ministries of foreign affairs, immigration, and tourism, organized 22 exceptional flights to return the stranded Egyptians abroad. The flights of EgyptAir are scheduled to operate to Beirut, Riyadh, Washington, Morocco, Amsterdam, Moscow, Bahrain, Johannesburg, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Bombay and Guangzhou in China. All flights will take off from Cairo International Airport, with all flights returning to Marsa Alam International Airport, the compulsory quarantine headquarters set by the Ministry of Health to check on the health of Egyptians returning from abroad. Other flights will be organized next week to Frankfurt, Maldives, Algeria, Athens, Kiev, Belgrade and Barcelona.

Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Adviser to the Egyptian President, said that the procedures taken by the government aim to prevent the spread of Corona virus, including the ban in Sham El-Nessim feast which was very beneficial in preventing the spread of the virus. He invited the citizens to follow the same instructions of social distancing during the holy month of Ramadan. Taj El-Din pointed out that Egypt has started to use plasma of the recovered in the treatment of people with coronavirus because it contains antibodies to the disease.

The Church of St. Mark in Alexandria distributed supplies for Corona virus prevention on Muslims and Christians in the area where the church is located. The supplies included 1000 bags containing chlorine bottle, alcohol bottle, gloves and face masks to the residents. This comes within the framework of supporting governmental and non-governmental efforts to limit the spread of the Corona virus, COVID-19.

Pope Francis called for the international sanctions that weigh on some countries to be lifted and also called for debt forgiveness. The cathedral of St. George in Tanta celebrated today the Holy Mass of the third anniversary of the martyrs of Palm Sunday. The holy mass was headed by Bishop Paula of Tanta without attendance of the congregation.

The Coptic Orthodox Church announced that the monastery of St. Anthony in the Red Sea will continue to close its doors to visitors due to the emerging Corona virus crisis. The monastery has issued a statement assuring that such closure is following the decision of the Holy Synod.

The Egyptian Orthodox Church in Alexandria decided to stop all wedding ceremonies after the celebration of wedding ceremonies as a precautionary measure to limit the spread of the emerging Corona virus. The church canceled all booked ceremonies following the decision of the holy synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

Bishop Paula of Tanta headed the celebration of the third anniversary of Palm Sunday martyrs who were killed in a terrorist attack during the celebration of Palm Sunday mass. The Coptic Orthodox Church announced that His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, will deliver his weekly sermon at the Pontifical Headquarters at the St. Mark s Cathedral in Abbasia, without the presence of the congregation. It is worth mentioning that the Coptic church will celebrate the Holy Week starting next Sunday amidst closure of the churches during to the Corona virus.

The Coptic Orthodox Church announced that the monastery of the Archangel Michael in Naqada, will continue to close its doors to visitors due to the emerging Corona virus crisis. Bishop Bemen of Naqdas and Qus said in an official statement that the church prays to stop the pandemic and looking forward to reopen the doors of the churches and monasteries back.

For the first time in its history, the Coptic churches and monasteries are closed in the Holy Week. The Monastery of Abu Fana, like other Coptic monasteries, announced it will not receive visitors during the Holy Week, including laity and clergy. The Coptic Orthodox Church announced that no public prayers will be held this year and no priests will visit the people.
