Coptic Church mourned Father Mansour Barsoum, priest of the Church of St. Mark in Kafr Abu-Eid, affiliated to the diocese of Zagazig and Minya al-Qamh. The late father died at the age of 71 years, after a priestly service that extended for more than 23 years.

His Eminence the late Bishop Athanasius (1923–2000), Metropolitan of Beni Suef was among the greatest pioneers of social development and ecumenical relations. He played a significant role in the growth and evolution of the service in Beni Suef, on the pastoral level as well as on the level of development. He came from a long line of priests; his family was known by the name Qassīs (i.e. priest). His uncle was the late Pope Macarius III (1944–1945), the 114th Patriarch of the Coptic Church. However, the family s connection to the priesthood goes back much further, with roots going back six generations to his paternal ancestor, Hegumen Abdelmasih, who was a priest in al-Mahalla who departed in the year 181 and was succeeded by his son, Hegumen Mikhail, who departed in 1840. In addition, Anba Athanasius elder brother was Hegumen Mikhail Bishara, a priest in the church St George in al-Mahalla al-Kubra, who was ordained on February 26, 1948 and departed on December 19, 1985.

His Grace Bishop Youannis (1923–1987), the late bishop of Gharbiyya, is considered one of the most important scholars and church historians of the twentieth century. His books continue to be seen as essential sources even though 29 years have passed since his departure on November 4, 1987. His birth certificate names him “Ramzy Azouz Germanos,” born on October 25, 1923 in the district of Shubra in Cairo, child of two devout parents. His Holiness Pope Tawadros II met today with a group of bishops to discuss some of the ideas put forward regarding the cooperation between Coptic media and how they can be coordinated in the form of a council or body to work together. Coptic Church celebrated on Friday the departure anniversary of Archdeacon Habib Girgis who was recognized as saint in the church. Archdeacon Habib Girgis was born in 1876 and died in 21 August 1951. He was a modern-day dean of the Catechetical School of Alexandria. He was the very first student for the modern-day Theological School, and was thus appointed to succeed his predecessor, Youssef Bey Mankarious, in the year 1918, as the second dean of the renewed center of theology.

A high-ranking delegation from the Russian embassy visited the Coptic Studies Institute at St. Mark s Cathedral in Abbasia.
