Hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters on Monday staged demonstrations outside the Cairo Convention Centre in the capital's Heliopolis district to voice support for President Mohamed Morsi.
The demonstration comes in advance of a scheduled conference organised by Egypt's Islamist forces devoted to the ongoing row over Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam project.
"We love you, Morsi," demonstrators chanted. Others held banners aloft reading, "With our soul and blood, we support you."
Morsi is scheduled to deliver a speech at Monday's conference, which is being organised by Egyptian Islamist parties to discuss suggested responses to Ethiopia's recent decision to divert the course of the Blue Nile – a move that some critics fear could adversely impact Egypt's traditional share of Nile water.
