Salafist Nour calls for Brotherhood concessions ahead of 30 June protests

The Salafist Nour Party has called on the Muslim Brotherhood to ease tensions with the opposition prior to demonstrations against President Mohamed Morsi on 30 June, the anniversary of his inauguration.

The advice was made during a meeting between the groups in Alexandria, a Nour Party member told Al-Ahram Arabic news website on Monday.

The main purpose of the meeting, the source explained, was to discuss the Nour Party’s position towards the planned protests.

The party, which has recently been critical of the Brotherhood's management of state affairs, assured the Brotherhood it would not take part in them, the source confirmed.

The Nour Party called on the Brotherhood to take practical steps to ease tensions, such as replacing the prosecutor-general, who is a considered by the opposition to be a Brotherhood loyalist, forming a government of national unity and setting a date for House of Representative elections.

An official statement on meeting will be released on Tuesday.

Calls for protests on 30 June were first announced by the Rebel campaign, which was launched in May to collect 15 million signatures calling for Morsi's removal and fresh elections.
