An Egyptian court sentenced Islamist preacher Ahmed Abdullah, known as Abu Islam, to three years in prison on Monday for insulting Christianity.
Abu Islam’s sentence can be temporarily suspended at EGP 10,000 (1,427 USD) bail.
The defendant was accused of exploiting religion to promote extremist ideologies which stir tension, insulting the Christian faith, harming national unity and threatening national security.
The plaintiff has submitted footage to the general prosecutor of the Islamist preacher insulting religions on a religious channel.
Abu Islam was also sentenced to 11 years in June for tearing up a bible, insulting religions and threatening public peace.
