Two U.S. senators arrive in Cairo for talks

John McCain and Lindsey Graham, members of the Committee on Defense and National Security in the U.S. Senate, arrived in Cairo on Monday for talks on Egypt's ongoing political crisis.

McCain and Graham arrived on board a US military aircraft for a two-day visit at the request of President Barack Obama.

They are scheduled to meet with Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Hazem al-Beblawy during their stay.

Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah meanwhile left Cairo on Monday afternoon after extending his visit for 24 hours.

A flurry of foreign officials have visited Cairo over the weekend to attempt to break a political impasse between Egypt's interim government and supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsy.

Egypt's Interior Ministry is threatening to disperse by force two major pro-Morsy sit-ins in Rabea al-Adaweya and al-Nahda Square in Cairo.
