Popular Current protest abroad against Western support for MB

The Popular Current staged protests in France and Canada on Sunday to denounce what it described as Western support of the Muslim Brotherhood and failure to back the Egyptian army's counter-terrorism efforts.

In a statement on Monday, the group, an alliance of liberal political groups founded by former presidential runner Hamdeen Sabbahi, said a number of Egyptians in Paris staged a vigil outside the Foreign Ministry. It said participants emphasized rejection of foreign intervention in Egypt's domestic affairs.

France had summoned the Egyptian ambassador last week in protest at a bloody dispersal of sit-ins in Cairo demanding the reinstatement of deposed President Mohamed Morsy.

The statement noted that other group members in Canada staged a demonstration outside the US consulate in Toronto to protest what they labelled as US support for the Muslim Brotherhood.

US congressmen are reportedly mobilizing for halting US annual financial aid to Egypt due to the current domestic tensions between army and police forces on one side and pro-Morsy protesters on the other side.

Sabbahi, meanwhile, has disclosed efforts by a number of Egyptian political groups to send popular delegations in order to communicate the reality of the situation in Egypt to world governments and "correct the distorted image of the political scene in Egypt," adding that the plan includes visits to Russia and China.
