Egypt's Prosecutor-General Hisham Barakat referred 62 people, supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, to the Cairo Criminal Court on Sunday on charges of vandalism and committing acts of violence during protests in Ramses Square in mid-July.
The charges included attempting to storm the Azbakeya police station, firing gunshots at police officers and blocking roads.
On July 15, seven people were killed and 260 were injured during clashes between supporters of deposed Islamist President Mohamed Mursi and the security forces.
Twenty-seven of those injured during the clashes were policemen, according to the state-owned news agency.
The prosecution accused the 62 defendants of attempted murder, the use of violence with police, thuggery and possession of unlicensed firearms and petrol bombs.
