Egyptian security forces reportedly arrested around 20 Muslim Brotherhood members on Sunday for allegedly causing disruption at both Al-Shohadaa and Saint Therese Metro stations in Cairo.
Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported that they were arrested for chanting against the military and police, in addition to attempting to write anti-army slogans on the stations’ walls.
Head of Cairo security, Osama El-Sogheir, ordered that the defendants be referred to prosecution services.
Supporters of deposed president Mohamed Morsi called for a number of metro sit-ins starting Sunday, to protest what they call "the military coup" that toppled the Islamist president.
Morsi loyalists said the move was planned to "paralyse traffic" in the country's major public transport networks.
Over two million commuters rely on the 60-station Cairo Metro line for their daily travel, according to Cairo Metro's official website.
