I have a proposal for all who love Egypt, especially the Copts. As the state is taking forever to repair and rebuild the demolished and burned churches and properties of the Copts, why don’t we donate for their restoration?
Millions of Egyptians who participated in the revolution of June 30 and civil parties can donate as well. Each of them can donate one dollar per month. This money may be collected in donation boxes or in bank account.
This will collect no less than 2 million dollars a month, which can be used to restore many churches without having to wait for the state to provide the money. We may do this with all due respect to the Egyptian military that saved Egypt from the Muslim Brotherhood and is waging war against terrorism in Sinai. Yet, churches are very important for the people, and many of them have to travel long distance in order to pray in another church after their churches were burned.
All churches can provide those donation boxes and send the money to the Cathedral that use it to restore and rebuild the affiliated churches and Coptic Christians. This will bring rapprochement between the Copts and many Muslims.
This money may be used as well to care for victims of sectarian violence. On the long run, it may build schools and hospitals to support national unity at each governorate.
I hope that the revolution of June 30 will change Egypt for the better in few years that it may restore its place among the great nations. Thus the Egyptians should work and cooperate to achieve such goal. I hope that Pope Tawadros II supports this proposal and take this initiative.
