Egypt is currently experiencing a critical time during the transitional period, in which her enemies are willing to harm her by all means. Therefore, we can’t risk by having a weak governor who takes only soft decisions. Instead, the upcoming president should be resolute and pretty much tough. In fact, democracy is not so new to Egypt, as it was practiced and applied six decades ago, before the revolution of July 23 , 1952.
At that time, many Arab and Western countries were ruled be authoritarian regimes. Yet, Egypt was under a parliamentary monarchy democratic regime similar to current one of England. Then, the Egyptian economy was strong enough to lend Great Britain. The real governor was the elected Prime Minister, and freedom of speech was of great value.
However, the revolution of 1952 was such a deterioration for practicing democracy in Egypt. Then, Egypt was introduced to the absolute ruler, and suffered for 60 years under the single-party system, and the so-called police state.
Suddenly, everything have changed with the arrival of the Arab spring, which removed the old governors and brought even worse dictators and bloody civil wars, in which prohibited chemical weapons were used and religious extremism spread.
This incited continual unrest and bloody conflicts in Egypt are leading to serious destruction of state institutions. Therefore, many people are now thinking that Egypt can’t be ruled by the so-called soft power, but rather a strong governor who is able to eliminate such destructive chaos.
Of course, no one wants a tyrant who seizes power, but an elected strong governor whose people love and trust. This governor should stop all bullies and tyrants. He is but a strong leader who is held accountable to the parliament.
Such governor should be a good man who is honest and enlightened. He must know how to overcome problems and crises. Furthermore, he must be a patriot person who saves his country and people under all kind of pressure.
He should be able to train the people for the new democratic system and teach them how to respect the constitution and law. Only this will make them able to choose their next leader with no fear or extraordinary precautions.
