Security forces raided al-Serw, a village in Egypt's Minya governorate, to arrest suspects believed to be involved in the shooting of Bishop Makarios.
A number of suspects have been identified, security sources revealed.
It was earlier reported that a group of people fired shots at priests because they carried out Christian religious rites inside an unlicensed house in Sarow.
The house belongs to Samir Lamey Habil. It has been used for holding Christian religious rites without acquiring a license, reports suggested.
