Jerusalem Post newspaper highlighted the phone call between the Egyptian Defense Minister General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his U.S. counterpart Chuck Hagel last Thursday, in which al-Sisi had said cutting the aid is not the right way to talk to Egypt, and that Washington will lose its influence in the region because of that.The newspaper added that Washington is facing a dilemma in dealing with Egypt, which controls the Suez Canal as well as a peace treaty with Israel.
On the other hand, a military leader told “Reuters” that Egypt’s military commanders are loosing trust in the American Administration, and they are considering other sources of weapons including Russia.
It’s worth mentioning that Abdullah Askar, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Saudi Shura Council, said: "Comparing to the Gulf aid, the U.S. aid is nothing. Additionally: people in the Gulf do not believe that cutting the aid is message of democracy".
