A Coptic Orthodox bishop said that Western military powers should not intervene in the region in order to come to the aid of persecuted Christians.
“All attempts to invoke the intervention of the West with the pretext of saving the Christian minority must be rejected,” said Bishop Markos of Shubra el-Kheima, Egypt’s fourth-largest city, according to a Fides news agency report.
Bishop Markos also rejected calls – apparently made by some young Copts – to stockpile weapons in churches in the wake of terrorist attacks.
