Egypt’s general prosecutor, Hisham Barakat, referred the man who attacked Khaled Dawoud, the official spokesman of the Dostour Party, to criminal court on Tuesday.
Dawoud was attacked at the beginning of this month as he passed in his vehicle through al-Qasr al-Ainy Street where supporters of Mohamed Mursi were protesting.
Some of the protesters attacked Dawoud and destroyed his car before one stabbed him several times with a sharp object in his chest.
The prosecutor charged Mostafa Mohamed Abdel Ghany with attempted murder for terrorist motives and possessing light weapons.
The authorities' investigations included eyewitness accounts that confirmed that Abdel Ghany did in fact commit the crime.
Dawoud himself was also able to identify the attacker and confirm that he is the person who stabbed him.
