The National Alliance in Support of Legitimacy has called for demonstrations in Egypt and outside Egyptian embassies across the world to salute Mohamed Morsy’s "steadfastness" in court on Monday.
The alliance also called for a popular trial of the "coup leaders" in Egypt's streets.
It said in a statement that when Morsy refused to wear a prisoner's uniform and waved the four-fingered Rabaa al-Adaweya salute in court, his popularity increased and he became a universal symbol of freedom and resistance.
Morsy is an icon of democracy, the alliance said in a statement.
The alliance continued, claiming Morsy's appearance was a clear message not to forfeit the blood of martyrs killed in Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda Square during August's dispersals.
