CAIRO: The Moderate Front for Encountering Violence, made up of former jihadist leaders, called on the Egyptian people to organize demonstrations on the anniversary of Mohamed Mahmoud to counter the Muslim Brotherhood’s calls to protest on the day, according to an official press release statement on Tuesday, reported Youm7.
On Nov. 19, 2011, clashes occurred on Mohamed Mahmoud street between protesters demanding the end of military rule and the security forces, which resulted in the death of 40 people. This led to on-going clashes on Mohamed Mahmoud street following the initial clashed on Nov. 19.
The front denounced the Muslim Brotherhood’s calls for demonstration saying, “Calls serves the enemies’ interests and agendas.”
“The front asks the Egyptian people not to be deceived by the destructive and suspicious calls launched by the country’s enemies who want to drag Egypt into bloodshed and destruction,” added the statement.
Moreover, the front strongly condemned the escalating violence caused by the Muslim Brotherhood and its supporters, and mourned the “martyrs” in Alexandria, Ismailia and Sinai.
The front includes a number of the jihadist organizations and dissidents. The most prominent leaders are: the military-technical leader of the Jihad Organization Sheikh Yasser Saad; Sheikh Ahmed Rashid; former Muslim Brotherhood member Sheikh Khalid al-Za’farani; and former leader of the Jihad Organization Sabra al-Qasim.
