ARISH, Egypt: Security forces continued on Monday campaigns in different regions in Sinai in pursuit of suspects, as well as destroying smuggling tunnels and attacking criminal hotspots.
Security forces intensified their presence in North Sinai and completed sealing vital regions in the governorate after numerous attacks on Sunday by unknown armed men.
Sunday witnessed an eruption of violence by unknown armed assailants against security forces. These attacks resulted in a security sweep of various areas leading to the seizure of a cache of smuggled goods, three unlicensed motorcycles and the burning of seven huts.
Informed sources said armed men attacked security personnel in al-Houra region in North Sinai on Sunday, leaving no injuries
This attack was followed by a bombing attempt of an armored vehicle near Sheikh Zuwayed cemetery, which left three soldiers injured, who were transferred immediately to al-Arish Military Hospital.
Also on Sunday, a civilian was shot dead under unclear circumstances in front of the residence of the North Sinai governor. Civil sources said the man was on a motorcycle when security suspected him and opened fire.
