Morsi must seek reconciliation: Islamist leaders

CAIRO: Head of the legislative committee of the former parliament Mahmoud al-Khodery demanded former president Mohamed Morsi not “escalate” tension and to seek reconciliation.

Kodery told Youm7 that Morsi must seek “reconciliation” to reach the country’s interests, and added that such an arrangement would include the release of Brotherhood leaders who were not involved in violent acts.
 
Gamaa Islamiyya leader Nageh Ibrahim said that he had advised Morsi to leave the presidency “to stop bloodshed” and to call for early presidential elections before the events of June 30.
 
Ibrahim added that Morsi is “still living in the ambiance” of of pre-June 30, saying Morsi must prefer the path that will achieve the country’s sake and not “the civil war.”
 
The deputy chairman of the 50-member committee tasked with amending the 2012 consitution Kamal al-Helbawy said the Brotherhood is “living in a sealed circle” and what they declared about holding dialogue is not a new issue.
 
He added that they cannot release the MB leaders that committed “violent crimes” to hold a meeting with them, pointing out that there are a large sector of people refuses the MB group now.
 
Mohamed Morsi was ousted on July 3 following mass demonstrations, and held in an undisclosed location. He was charged with killing protestors outside of the Ithadeya presidential palace, and at the first session of his trial on Nov. 4, refused to recognize the trial proceedings or select lawyers to defended, and stated that he was still the legitimate president. His trial has been postponed until Jan. 8.
