BENI SUEF, Egypt: Students of Beni Suef University organized a demonstration inside the students’ dorm in solidarity with their colleagues of Al-Azhar University on Wednesday evening.
An official source in the administration of the university said that Anas Gamal, head of the students union and reportedly belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood, climbed the fence of the dorm. A number of students living in the hostel joined him and started to chant anti-military and anti-police slogans. They were confronted by other students, especially from the faculty of pharmacy and the faculty of medicine, who will take exams tomorrow, according to the source.
The protests were transmitted through a mobile phone to Al-Jazeera and were broadcasted on air, the source said. He added that officials of the dorm would submit a memo to the administration of the university and to the security regarding the behavior of the head of the students union and his infiltration in the university’s dorm to organize demonstrations.
