Children’s cancer hospital organizes fourth annual marathon

CAIRO: The  57357 Cancer Hospital organized the fourth annual marathon on Nov. 16, in the Smart Village.

Many people of different ages and nationalities participated in the charity event, celebrating the recovery of many children who were previously diagnosed with cancer. The marathon started early morning; and included running, biking and many different activities.

The Canadian Embassy partook in the marathon, and the Canadian Ambassador David Drake told The Cairo Post that it is one of those impressive moments to be with the children who have recovered from cancer.

“This is a very important opportunity to help kids who have cancer in Egypt,” Drake told The Cairo Post. Drake added that he sees that sports and charities should be mixed together in the Egyptian society. He added, “You can see that by focusing on sports, this is a fantastic marriage between sports and a very good cause.”

Former Al-Ahly goalkeeper Ramzy Saleh was also present at the marathon in order to support the recovered children. “I am very pleased to be with the children today. Sports have an effective role in Egyptian society, so we donate our time to help people and make children happier,” Ramzy Saleh said to The Cairo Post.

Chairman of the Board of the smart village, Engineer Adel Danash, expressed his happiness to participate in the event by helping to organize the marathon.

“It’s a great honor to participate in organizing this huge event. There are around 2000 participants today in the event and this reflects that Egypt is completely safe”, said Adel Danash to The Cairo Post.

Rawan Refaat, one of the marathon’s attendees, expressed happiness in cheering the children on during their day. Rawan told The Cairo Post, “The event is a good opportunity to participate with the children today. Of course the children need support and we are here to give it.”
