Free Egyptians Party contrasts Mubarak with MB in Omar Suleiman recordings

CAIRO: Former Head of Egyptian Intelligence Omar Suleiman’s sound recordings “put us in an unwanted comparison between Hosni Mubarak’s security state and the Muslim Brotherhood’s religious state,” said official spokesperson of the Free Egyptians Party Shehab Wagih, because the former accepts revolution where the latter denies it.

The spokesperson said the recordings confirm that Omar Suleiman, “the strong man in Mubarak’s regime,” admits to the legitimacy of the January 25 Revolution, unlike former president Mohamed Morsi, who denies the events of June 30 and still claims executive power.

He said Suleiman “showed an understanding for the reasons behind why the revolution erupted.” The problem, he added, was that government was too slow to respond to the revolutionary forces of the time.

The Free Egyptians Party spokesperson placed this in direct contract with Morsi’s government, which “did not admit to the June 30 popular uprising and did not offer apologies for fatal mistakes that it committed.”

He added that “practical experience proved that an authoritarian religious state is more dangerous than a repressive state.”
