CAIRO: The Freedom Committee of the Egyptian Bar Association is opposing a new protest law issued by interim President Adly Mansour, and is threatening “massive demonstrations,” if it is not withdrawn within 48 hours, said committee spokesman Assad Heikal on Monday.
Heikal said a number of lawyers will meet with political parties to discuss the repercussions of the law if it is not withdrawn.
”We had the right to demonstrate in the January revolution,” he said. “Everyone has a right to protest peacefully.”
Heikal also said the association sent the Ministry of Justice a request for a copy of the law for dissection, but their demand was refused.
