CAIRO: Pro-Muslim Brotherhood students in Al-Azhar University protested on Monday to demand the release of two of their fellow students that were arrested during previous demonstrations.
The student union of the faculties of Mass Communications and Arabic Language at the Darasa branch of Al-Azhar organized protests in front of both faculties and called for a strike.
Leader of the student union Abd al-Salam Salah told Youm7 that the strike would continue until the release of the arrested students.
Students of several other faculties protested as well.
Pro-Brotherhood students from the Da’wa faculty demonstrated in front of the university branch in Nasser City (Cairo) to disrupt lessons and stop the mid-term exam.
Other protests took place in front of the Agriculture and Commerce faculties in the university branch for men. In the branch for girls, students organized demonstrations in front of the faculty of Pharmacy, and raised Rabaa al-Adaweya signs.
Reportedly the protesters attacked several journalists that were covering the events, taking their cameras and deleting photos.
Students in the English department of the faculty of Commerce, refused to take the mid-term exam for the second consecutive day, until the release of arrested students.
Dean Osama Zeed of the faculty of Commerce said in statements that the students in the faculty organized protests to prevent security forces from storming the students’ residence.
