CAIRO: Head of Journalists Syndicate and 50-committee member Diaa Rashwan said no constitution in the world includes the freedom of media and of citizens as the newly adopted one in Egypt.
Rashwan told Youm7 the new constitution is the first document in Egypt’s history which enables any Egyptian citizen and media to obtain all their rights
New articles were introduced, such as the article that guarantees independency for state owned newspapers, which means they will never be privatized, Rashwan said.
He also mentioned the article that allows establishing newspapers through notification and other articles that guarantee media and journalists’ freedom, forbidding any ban on them.
Rashwan said the new constitution guarantees the objectivity and neutrality of state-owned media outlets through a constitutional order.
He said according to the new constitution, the Ministry of Media will be canceled and replaced by a national authority for media. The new constitution also forbids detaining citizens over crimes of publishing.
