Min. of Interior: We will confront Brotherhood’s plans of disrupting referendum

CAIRO: Ministry of Interior spokesperson Hany Abdel Latif said the ministry security agencies, in coordination with the military, are ready to secure the referendum process.

He said the ministry’s role in the referendum process will be limited to preparing the electoral sub-committees, providing phosphoric inks and ballot boxes, securing polling stations from outside, and securing the judges while they supervise the referendum process.

Abdel Latif said the ministry will help the elderly and those with special needs to enter the polling stations to cast their votes easily and smoothly. The policemen will not enter the polling stations unless they are asked to a by judge, who is head of the polling station.

Abdel Latif told Youm7 that the Ministry of Interior will raise the state of alert during the referendum process. The forces will be completely prepared to stop any plans by the Muslim Brotherhood attempting to disrupt the referendum or causing riot and instability.

Security agencies confirmed information that Brotherhood supporters will rally in the streets during the two days of the referendum to disrupt the process, to create a state of unrest. They will probably try to enter Tahrir, Rabaa al-Adaweya, and el-Nahda squares, despite the Brotherhood’s declarations that they will not protest for those two days.
