Gamaa Islamiyya rejects Aboul Fotouh’s mediation between MB and government

CAIRO: Osama Hafez, deputy chief of the Shura Council of Gamaa Islamiyya, criticized the statement issued by Chairperson of the Strong Egypt Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh in which he expressed his readiness to mediate between the ruling authority and the pro-MB National Alliance to Support Legitimacy.

Hafez described the mediation effort as very difficult, stressing that the mediator should be neutral. He signaled that the former presidential candidate supported the demonstrations calling for the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi on June 30.

Mohamed Abou Samra, Secretary General of the Islamic Party, the political arm of the Jihad organization, said the government and the MB gave Aboul Fotouh the green light to start mediation.

Aboul Fotouh told the Anadolu News Agency on Monday, that he is willing to be the mediator between the current regime and the MB to reach national reconciliation.

Previous reconciliation attempts since Morsi’s ouster have been met with resistance from both sides, as the interim government and the Muslim Brotherhood both placed preconditions before starting dialogue.
