Major General Abdel Fattah Othman, Assistant Minister of Interior for the media sector and public relations, affirmed that a tight plan is in place to secure all churches nationwide on New Year’s Eve
Othman said Monday evening during a phone-in with al-Hayah al-Youm, a talk show on al-Hayat Channel, that cars and motorcycles would not be allowed to park in the vicinity of churches, pointing out that some people are trying to spread terror among citizens.
The police and the armed forces developed a plan for securing the churches, as well as the referendum on the draft constitution and parliamentary and presidential elections, he said.
More than 20 people were killed in a bombing at an Alexandria church on News Year’s Eve in 2011.
