CAIRO: More than 60 percent of eligible voters are expected to participate in the first day of the constitutional referendum on Tuesday, according to the head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) Abou Bakr el-Gendy.
Gendy said the number of voters inside Egypt will exceed the number of voters who voted abroad, as 53 million Egyptians above the age of 18 are expected to vote.
Gendy said that for Egyptian expatriates, this year’s referendum was more difficult than last year’s. This is mostly due to voting via post being banned, which required expatriate voters to visit embassies and consulates to cast their ballot.
Gendy called on Egyptians to exercise their right to vote, bearing in mind that the whole world will be watching the outcome of the referendum.
